The First Letter of John

Although the letters of John are anonymous, there is a very strong tradition linking them to the apostle John, the 'disciple Jesus loved'. John apparently lived to a great age, probably outliving the other disciples. In this letter he bears testimony to his Lord and the wonderful gospel message, he warns against those who claim that Christ was not fully human and that they had transcended sin (and were thus morally free to do as they pleased), and he instructs the believers to love one another as a cornerstone of their belief and practise.
