The Second and Third Letters of John

These two very short letters are penned anonymously by someone who calls themselves 'the Edler', but both tradition and the similarities between the letters and the gospel and first letter of John lead to the conclusion that the apostle John, Jesus' special disciple, was the author. They share some of the same themes and vocabulary as 1 John, and emphasise the importance of brotherly love, and also the importance of standing by the true gospel which has been preached 'from the beginning'.
