Song of Songs

Unique amongst the Biblical writings, the Song of Songs or Song of Solomon is a collection of poetry celebrating the mutual love and infatuation of a man and a woman. Despite opposition, their love flames strong, and the poetry which expresses it is lush, vibrant and erotic. But the Song is never gratuitous in its sexuality, and is all the more powerful for what it doesn't say explicitly, revealsing it instead through imagery and the covert. The Song has fascinated readers and interpreters through the centuries, and imore commentaries have been written on imost of the Old Testament books. As a celebration of human love the Song is delightful and inspiring enough, but to many believers it also speaks in parable of the love of God for Israel and the love of Christ for his church.
